Gleneagles Country Club Tees Up in Support of 20th Anniversary of Play for P.I.N.K. on February 5-6
January 30, 2024DELRAY BEACH, FL — Gleneagles Country Club, renowned for its picturesque golf courses, posh amenities, and caring community of philanthropic members, is proud to celebrate 20 years of its partnership with Play for P.I.N.K., a charitable organization dedicated to raising funds for breast cancer research and The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
Gleneagles Country Club will host its Play for P.I.N.K. Men’s Team Event on Monday, February 5, 2024, and its Ladies’ Team Event on Tuesday, February 6, 2024. Festivities will include the tournament, awards, card party, luncheon, and raffles. There will also be a boutique on Monday, February 5, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with 14 vendors offering a variety of merchandise including jewelry, handbags, candles, clothing and more.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office will be supporting the event by bringing their therapy dogs, and pink patrol vehicle, and there will also be a helicopter ball drop event on February 6 at 7:45 am, when 300 pink golf balls will be dropped from the PBSO chopper with the one landing closest to the target winning a cash prize of $1,000.
“We are selling the balls for $20 each,” says Play for P.I.N.K. Co-Chair Rita Horowitz. “We are also having hole-in-ones on each golf course on each day. And there’s a target hole on each course. If you get a hole-in-one, it is a $5,000 cash prize.”
Play for P.I.N.K. Co-Chair Vicki Burnstein has been generously donating her time, talent and treasure to the event. “Play for P.I.N.K. is a cause close to my heart because 100% of the proceeds go towards breast cancer research,” Burnstein said. “Everyone really likes to get involved here and is committed to giving back. And our members and every department at the club go above and beyond to get wonderful prizes for our raffles.”
Both Horowitz and Burnstein were eager to get involved especially since cancer has touched the lives of loved ones and friends around them.
“My mother-in-law had it. My niece has it,” Horowitz said. “My sister, I believe, might've had it towards the end, but never got diagnosed. But I have granddaughters and for women at large, I want everyone to be healthy and not to have to go through this.”
Burnstein’s family has bravely battled the disease too. “My aunt had breast cancer. She did not die from it. She was a survivor,” Burnstein said. “My sister has stage three ovarian cancer, which goes hand in hand. My mother had endometrial cancer and died at 94. My father had lung cancer and died at 83. Anything and everything we can do to try to eradicate it is imperative in my mind.”
These are just a few reasons why the dynamic duo works year-round with other club members to make the Play for P.I.N.K. event such a success.
From tennis rackets and a Louis Vuitton handbag to restaurant and spa gift certificates and more, Gleneagles ensures it makes giving back an even more beautiful experience. Estée Lauder also underwrites the event. In addition, club members and local businesses are sponsors, including AmTrust Bank.
Last year, Gleneagles Country Club raised $150,000 through Play for P.I.N.K., adding to the overall total of $2,176,283 it has raised over the past 19 years.
Play for P.I.N.K.’s President and Founder, Laura Lassman, will attend the event this year. “I am delighted to be with you on February 6 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Gleneagles being a member of the Play for P.I.N.K. family,” Lassman shared in a letter thanking the club. “The Play for P.I.N.K. team is in awe of your determination, commitment, and extraordinary work, which continues to help grow Play for P.I.N.K. in every way — supporters, geographic reach and funds raised.”
